Beijing issues two new five-year plans for education and the environment
The planning is going according to plan.
On June 11, Premier Li Qiang chaired a State Council executive meeting that approved the 15th Five-Year Plans (FYP) for education and another one for a "Beautiful China."
- That brings the tally to six new sectoral FYPs over the past four weeks.
The education plan calls for:
- Promoting equity in education
- Optimizing the structure of the education system
- Raising quality – en route to becoming an "education powerhouse"
The Beautiful China plan:
- Presses the "battles" for blue skies, clear water, and clean soil
- Adds controls for solid waste and "new pollutants"
- Recommits to decarbonization and green development
Get smart: The 15th FYP's sub-plans are landing faster and at a steadier tick than previous cycles – signaling that Li Qiang is overseeing a tighter, more institutionalized planning process.
