Xi Jinping's tone toward AI has shifted from "might go wrong" to "is going wrong." While Xi generally struck an upbeat note in his July 8 speech to the country's scientists, his comments on AI came with a warning of an "increasingly apparent double-edged sword" (Xinhua 1). A rhetorical escalation:
