Neither Xi Jinping nor Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio attended an event in Tokyo on Thursday to mark the 50th anniversary of the normalization of Sino-Japanese diplomatic relations.
Nor did the two men speak to each other to mark the occasion.
